Adobe Business Catalyst End Of Life Cycle

End of life cycle with Adobe Business Catlyst

On Monday, 26th March 2018, we received word in a very abrupt announcement from Adobe, that Business Catalyst web hosting service (where we host many websites) will reach it’s end of life cycle as of March 26, 2020  March 26, 2021  (extended by Adobe 10/04/2018 - see more). This impacts over 750,000 sites worldwide.  We have officially been a Premium Partner with Adobe Business Catalyst since 2009.

Our strategy was to notify our clients about this change, reaching out to our clients individually, but since the announcement some unscrupulous agencies and social media posts are spreading both panic and opportunistic and self-serving messages about the closure of Adobe Business Catalyst in March 2021.

While this has come as an unexpected event for us and for you, the immediate impact for our clients will be minimal.

Pixel Portal currently hosts many websites through Adobe Business Catalyst and will be working through our client sites and their business needs to develop the best strategy for each site and the best time for the business to manage a migration to another hosting platform. Remember, there is adequate time to plan - 26 March 2021 is the final close off date.

What has been happening already

Since the announcement on 26th March 2018, the Business Catalyst Partner and developer community has taken immediate action to develop some options for partners to assist their client base to move forward with their websites.

We are watching all developments closely, but we are still waiting to see what options there are before we make specific recommendations to anyone. These recommendations will be based on each client's unique needs.

Some key points to remember

  •   There is adequate time between now and March 2021 to make change and plan to migrate or rebuild your website.
  •   Your website still functions the same way as it always has, this does not change.
  •   We consider this a strategic planning issue, not an urgent issue.
  •   With other changes occurring online (for example - https:// security for browsing now a standard and responsive sites), this may be another reason to review your website strategy.
